Alone

There’s a song I’ve been listening to a lot lately. It’s allegorical, about Jesus on the cross. And I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately too as it’s been in my head. It’s called Alone, by Emery, and I wouldn’t recommend it unless you don’t mind screaming.

The moral of the song is that we’re never alone. Only Jesus ever was. No matter how we feel, or what we’re going through, God is always there. Jesus died for that. You see, when Jesus died on the cross, God turned away. He couldn’t look at Jesus based on the fact that all the sin of the world, past, present, future, was on him.

We are never alone. God will never turn away from us, never forsake us. All the wicked deeds we’ve done, the sins we’ve committed, they’ve been paid for. We’ve never been alone and we don’t have to be. We’re free from the evil of this world, set apart for something greater than ourselves.

You see, there’s more to God than feeling him. No one can feel something all the time. Think about it; you can’t feel happy forever. God works the same. You can’t feel Him forever or all the time. If you did, you’d probably just get used to that feeling. It would be normal and you wouldn’t have to press into God to find Him. Your faith wouldn’t have the chance grow and you wouldn’t be able to have a much better, more intimate relationship with the one who created you.

I think loneliness is a choice. We can choose to sit and be miserable or we can choose to do something about how we feel. Feelings go away, fade, disappear. We don’t have to deal with them all the time if we choose not to. Loneliness can prevent us from making friends and building relationships. It can make us feel worthless when we have been made priceless. It’s the enemy’s way of separating us from God, making us feel like He betrayed us or He isn’t real. It’s a hint, a whisper in our ears, a lie to persuade us to the losing side. When we give into those lies, we’re often worse off. It opens you up and you become more susceptible to more pain, more lies, more loneliness.

Jesus died so we could have a choice. We we’re created as puppets. We were created for more than what we feel.

We are never alone. And we never have to be.
