Worth
Something I’ve been thinking
about a lot lately is self-worth, mostly because mine changes often depending
on the day I’m having (hence the lack of updates which I apologize for). I can
go from being totally okay with not being model skinny and outgoing to
absolutely hating myself because I’m antisocial and if I went to Hollywood,
they’d put me on a diet. There’s more than just appearance though. Its past
mistakes and the tremendous amount of x marks in my math book. It’s my best
friend not talking to me and my parents being upset because sometimes my memory
fails me and as the oldest, I wasn’t responsible enough. There’s so much that
triggers this self-hatred and it sucks more often than not. It messes with your
mood but most importantly, your relationship with God.
Genesis 1:26, “Now let us conceive
a new creation-humanity-made in our image, fashioned according to our likeness
(Voice).” Yes, we sin. Yes, we all have our bad days. But God, firstly, made us
in His image and secondly, sent his son to die for us. Why? Love. He loves us
for we are, for who we’ll be, sinner or saint, it doesn’t matter to Him. We are
all equally important in His eyes. He has grace enough to spare, He’s the God
of everything, and yet we still matter to him. Isn’t that such a beautiful
thing?
We forget that. I forget that because
there are bad days and I do mess up. In this world, it’s one of the easiest
things for the enemy to pick on. All the media surrounding us-TV, movies,
books- have started setting standards for appearances. You don’t fit in certain
groups because you’re the quiet, nerdy one. Everywhere you look, someone seems
prettier, more built, better hair, more unique eye colors, everything you’re
not. Or so you think. If you are made in the image of the one who hold the
universe, and you are, then you’re perfect. He made everything, the stars,
birds, forests, flowers, so many beautiful things and yet we are treasured
above all of that. To Him, we are more beautiful than the Milky Way and the
sunrise and the storm clouds.
You are priceless, loved, and
treasured over all the earth. You are important. You are called and chosen, set
apart. You are holy and blameless. You are a child of God and nothing in all of
creation will separate you from His love.
