Pebbles
So, this past weekend we were at the beach (I know, we've been busy). I did what I normally do which is look for cool shells to take home. Among the shells were pebbles. They're smooth and soft and in their own way, perfect. There's a song by Nicole Nordeman called River God and the pebbles made me think of it immediately.
Basically, we're stones. Life, or trials, is the river or the ocean. As Christians, we should strive to be perfect, Christlike. The struggles we go through are to improve us, to give us room to grow, to smooth down our rough edges.
I've been dealing with some things lately. Mostly just destructive thoughts, as well as stress and anxiety over school and people I care about. Nothing physical but it's been weighing me down. It's just the Rapids. I've been through it before, I know I can get through it.
Getting through is pretty simple. Just let go. Let go of everything except your faith. Let your faith grow through it, let your relationship with God strengthen through it. He's there and he has a plan. The only way for a stone to become smooth is through the turmoil and the chaos. It's the same for us. We just have to hold onto the hope we have and rest in the knowledge that this, whatever you're going through, is okay. There is a reason behind it. And in the end, as the song says, we can be just a little smoother in His hand.
